Justice and Consumer Affairs Minister Kelly Lamrock announced his support of Law Day and applauded the activities of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) - New Brunswick Branch and others involved in promoting and celebrating this national event. Law Week events will be held in New Brunswick from April 11 to 17.
“Law Day is celebrated throughout New Brunswick and Canada each year on or around the April 17 anniversary of the proclamation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms,” said Lamrock. “Law Day promotes public awareness of the legal system and is observed in cities and towns across the country. This year’s theme is Access to Justice: Justice for All.”
To help celebrate Law Day and promote access to a range of public law-information services, the Public Legal Education and Information Service of New Brunswick (PLEIS-NB) recently announced a new web site to facilitate access to the family justice system.
“This non-profit service, which is supported by the provincial and federal Justice Departments and the New Brunswick Law Foundation, has published over 120 bilingual pamphlets and handbooks on a variety of law-related topics, “ said Lamrock. “It operates a toll-free family law information line, and offers many other services to help the public understand the law.”
Bookmarks promoting this new Family Law NB web site are being distributed by the CBA at many of its events. Libraries around the province are being asked to give a bookmark to everyone who borrows a book throughout the week.
